I Have Heard

I have heard in the stories I was told as a child

Of the Lord making man from dust and woman from his side

Speaking into them the sacred breath of life

I have heard God stepped low, God drew near, walked beside

Tell me God, how can I believe that you'd come down and die for me

When you won't even reply to me when I call out in the night

I have heard in the stories that continue to this day

Of the Lord making promises to answer all who pray

Speaking clearly to the sinner and the saint

So I say, God, bend low. God, be near. Don't delay
