Fallen Away

The harsh antiseptic light cleanses any possibility of illusion from the look in her eyes

He looks at her with a hunger deep inside

Not from stomach but from soul

A hunger strong enough to be a constant ache in his chest

This ache now increasing becoming violent

Causing him to narrow his eyes to a sliver in response to the unendurable pain

She looks away unable to withstand the sight of the pain she has caused albeit unintentionally

She crushes her cigarette as easily as she crushed his heart
