Why is it important to showcase queer vulnerability

I think, like, vulnerability is something that often feels like a bad thing

And seeing it in combination with something that is powerful

I think that does something very special and important

As the smells of molten chocolate, autumn spices, sweet liquor and pine began to fill the air

I began to feel less uneasy and felt the first creases of a smile begin to stretch across my face

Familiar faces beamed at me

Faces I'd longed to see for a long time

We embraced and rocked from side to side

Exchanged greetings and compliments

And began to set the tone for this festive moment

There was a loud ping from the kitchen

And after a few seconds the scents that I'd smelled earlier

Were veiled by the scents of baked delights

That teased our noses and made our stomachs rumble

We shuffled to the dining table where the feast was laid upon sumptuously arranged plateaus

The bass and melody of an upbeat song began to warp through the room

And float above the dinner table where we'd found our places

The house began to be filled with the roars of laughter and clinking glasses

Plates passed, spoons dipped

And full mouths undulating with a crack of a smile at their corners

As I stood up to reach for a bowl

Dust fell from my head and onto the table

I looked at it

GOLD

And I recognised its round shape

I picked it up, and put it back on my head

I glanced over to my kin

Like light, their heads were glimmering with gold

My reflection in the brass salad bowl showed me an aureola

Hovering around my head

Illuminated with purity

This sight struck in my throat

And I gathered the words

This is a sanctuary

We are sacred in our loving expression

Familial bonds, familiar views

We smell of roses and light

And this scent will linger us as we tread through the world

Remembering the love that we have received

And pass it on to the next
