Gotta see a light

Working for the man I didn't think much of it

Now I understand how I've been indoctrinated

Learning from the past how they built up this nation

On the backs of the Blacks and Native population

Comparing generations similarities I'm making

The 1 percent exerting control through enslavement

McDonaldization the system passed through our time

Taking advantage of the cheap labor I provide

I'm getting paid, but not a liveable wage

No disrespect to the past, I'm a modern day slave

Corporate greed owning the majority of shares

"Trickle Down Economics" they promote is found nowhere

They make a dollar better yet a hundred while I make a dime

Abusing the system they know I need to work to survive

Even though the system isn't perfect, really nothing is

I'm arguing it's getting better as we build our consciousness

Working for the man I'm trying to break free

The system needs to be seen to express our agency

Enslaved by the machine we constantly feed

History doesn't repeat but it rhymes seasonally

Capitalism we benefiting the system

It's us and the 1 percent's wealth perversion

Whether you like it or not we're stuck in this system

It's time to take back control of our individualism

Now I'm cognisant of the system that we live in

I'm taking action to make sure I'm not playing victim

And I don't say that without any consideration

Of the 99 percent feeling lost in perpetuation

I was in your shoes too ready to fight for my people

My anger was subdued as I practiced to be mindful

Within my tolerance window I'm understanding logics

Rationalization controlling people for profits

We're cogs in the system, building up their fortunes

Subject to oppression, but we have our freedoms

Once we know our conditional tendencies to be free

Then we'll have a sense of safety bringing us back to peace

Breaking from enslavement is my main motivation

Through this exercise I realize we're the solution

We're meant to do right in a world that feels disembodied

It's up to us to make change to help everybody
