Lyrics
Sean sat slumped over the green room bedpost
He walked in half an hour before to calm his nerves
A cold cup of tea
Some powder debris
The band was on a mission to irritate the world
Michelle behind the drum set was the first to hear his
Uncanny quiet
And then she looks back
And she doesn't quite know
What she's seeing
Cause a corpse and a man
Who's just sleeping
Look quite the same
She walks close to check
If he's breathing
And Jimmy runs in
And Craig's not far behind
They all
Smile
They think he's fine
Fine
And Sean's
Thumbs upright
As if he's fine
Fine
Michelle takes out her hand, places it on Sean's cold chest
In search of something beating to drown out the quiet room
The smile on her face
Starts melting away
Craig slumps over slowly and into Jimmy's arms
He looks down at his shoes in order to avoid his face
A tear on his cheek
His bones getting weak
And the band doesn't know what they're doing
And behind the wall the crowd starts moving impatiently
They stare at the vacant stage, booing
They're in for a show
Now where did the band go
But they all
Smile
As if it's fine
Fine
And the lights
Dim behind
Like it's all fine
Fine
I move on
From these words
Knowing nothing will ever hurt
As much as writing them
I separate
My hand from the page
And leave my diary
In a dire state
Maybe somebody will read them in a hundred years
Maybe somebody will want to print the pain
Maybe there's a lesson
But hopefully there's not
Sincerely,
Jimmy McCain
