Lyrics
Back in about the early 60s, I lived out in an acreage near a small town that contained the only grocery store for miles
I was a small child, maybe 11, when my dad came home from a work trip with a small white border collie puppy with black spots
He told me she was mine so I named her Collie
Throughout the years, Collie and I grew up together
I would come home on my bad days upset, wanting to break things
She would come and lick my face until I was calm
I remember seeing the first gray hairs grow on that pup's face
Not only that, but it was a farm dog
She was plenty roughed up
Her bones started hurting, so she got bad at herding and running
She lived in the barn, nursing her bones, living her happiest life
I would visit her once or twice a day
Then Collie stopped getting out of her bed, she would just lay there
happy as can be
until I held her as she took her last breath
The dog that had been by my side every day since I was a child
died just like I met her, in my arms
I love that dog, Collie
I hope she knew that
Oh, Collie
Remember how we use to run
