Pretty Good Night
A warm harvest moon sat about the city of Austin, Texas
It was very large and golden orange with small wispy clouds covering the bottom half
It was the first week of October, but the weather in Texas was still a consistent 97 degrees
I drove home from a gig where I played some background music for a private dinner of about 14 people who enjoyed a nice meal by a private chef
I was underdressed, but it was quite lovely
My old 2001 Chevy Express van didn't have a working AC, so I drove home with the windows open, still pretty sweaty from the gig
Cars blew by me on the highway, this ol' van had proven to be pretty reliable the past few years, but definitely not speedy
I had the radio blaring to try and block out some of the road noise, it kinda gave me a headache
I got back to my apartment late
They had been painting the hallways so the floors were lined with plastic and painters tape
That plus a few flickering lights made it all seem very eery
I unlocked my janky door with a minimum amount of trouble and was greeted by my little bowling ball of a bulldog
Mona Meatball
My little apartment was a mess
"Looks like a tornado came through here" I said to Mona
She stared at me and tilted her head, confused
Maybe she didn't notice or didn't mind a bit of clutter
Also coulda been a language barrier, her English wasn't too good yet
I made myself some ginger tea to soothe my raspy throat
My voice was basically shot, I'd been busy of late
I spent the rest of the night listening to old random radio segments on YouTube, petting Mona who slept with her head resting on my lap
A pretty good night
