Lyrics
Why must Lady Luck deal me such a losing hand?
I played their shitty melodies – so they strike me from the band?
They said I'd tried to rule them with an iron fist
So they staged a coup and they cast me from their midst
I cursed them as the lutist shoved me out the door
Then my fist met his face, and his face met the floor
Soon the battlefield was strewn with my former friends
I shot them a parting sign and alone I forged ahead
They've paved their path to ruin
They'll be sorry that I'm gone
As sure as I won't remember this night
They'll come crawling back before dawn
The lone genius unleashed, I strutted through the busy street
Trilling on my flute, wondering what lay next for me
I spied a gothic tent down an alley free of cheer
Perhaps the fortuneteller would make my path clear
Beyond the silk veil, incense rose high
A warm solace from the darkening sky
A whisper drew me close, seductive and sedate
"For a mere three coins lad, I'll tell you of your fate"
With wizened hands betraying her years
She rolled the bones and told me through crocodile tears
"Tread lightly, young man, for doom stalks your trail
Three Bards will be the end of you, should your virtue fail"
"You'll pave your path to ruin
With your wicked ways
Seek not redress nor revenge in kind
Or you'll soon face the end of your days"
"Forget you, hag doomsayer, I'll cut fate off at the pass
I'll erase those traitors before they ever get the chance"
From there, my path was clear – I'd just need a ship
So I left and bribed the dockworkers guarding her slip
I'll pave their path to ruin
I know the tavern where they'll play
I'll flip my fate right on its head
And spell the end of their days
