Lyrics
As I walk at eventide
Glowing lamp in hand to guide
Upon the hill, a lifeless tower
Hopelessness, its final hour
Heavy hands and weighted feet
Haunting chill around me greets
Through the ruins of ancient stones
Treading grounds of buried bones
The wind braves through the trees
Their arms shake to their leaves
The cries of the air
No way to save their prayers
And time would pass in fear
For the ghosts of Inisheer
At the tower's deathly height
Roams a figure pale and white
Standing watch he spies the masts:
Floating phantoms of the past.
The hostile ships land on the shore
He cries out, "Our brothers, oh!
They have come to bury us
Take our tower; we'll burn to dust."
Who storms the stronghold there
but dark assassins of the air
A forever hallowed tomb
The flames seal their doom
The waves engulf the tears
Of the ghosts of Inisheer
Sleep, now
May peace be on your brow
Do not fear
For heaven is near
Glide so
Unshackle your woes
Let serenity
Take hold like the sea
At the calling of the dawn
The seven sisters' bells do call
To banish spirits of the night
And the terror takes its flight
