My excuse

I hate to think what life would be like if you weren't around

Maybe you're the reason why my feet are on the ground

Would I even get out of bed before the afternoon

Would I spend my evenings simply staring at the moon

Are you really the reason or are you just my excuse

Do I keep you tied up or do I cut you loose

I don't know who the villain is and hey should I care

Nothing really matters only that you're there

I hate to think what life might be like if we didn't drink

I suppose that it would mean that now we'd have to think

Might that be a good thing only time would tell

I reckon for many out there that's a living hell

Are you really the reason or are you my excuse

I'm surprised you need me here because I'm not that much use

I could change a light bulb if that's what you need

Otherwise all I am is another mouth to feed

Reflecting on the 'why we are' and on the 'what will be'

And all of the changes that we so quickly see

There's no time for sitting back 'cos soon you will be lost

All they want is more and more don't worry about the cost

Struggling with the way it's gone and was it really bad

Have we gone beyond that point of the best we've ever had

Maybe we should hold our hands up say enough's enough

But the only thing I do know is that things are gonna be tough

I hate to think what life will be in twenty years from now

Will we still survive this possibly somehow

Will you still be nice to me and treat me with respect

I don't have the faintest clue of what is coming next

Are you really the reason or are you my excuse

Should you really sit there and take all this abuse

I wish so much I could give out more but would that make things right

I recommend surrender when it comes to a fight
