Twenty-eight hundred years ago

Jehovah told Jonah to go

To Nineveh and preach the Word of God

For they had never heard

Jonah at first did not obey

He took a sailing ship the other way

While he was sleeping down below

God sent a mighty wind to blow

Crew threw the cargo overboard

And cried to every heathen lord

Captain woke up Jonah

To beg his favorite god to let 'em through

They all drew straws and Jonah lost

So he told them why the ship was tossed

Because I'm runnin' from The Lord

You're gonna have to throw me overboard

They didn't want to throw him in

Oh God forgive our bloody sin

They finally threw him in the sea

And the hurricane vanished instantly

As Jonah sank down to Sheol

A giant fish swallowed him whole

For three dark days and nights he prayed

Oh God only You can save

God told the whale to spit him out

Jonah walked on back to his house

The next time God told him to go

Jonah said Okay don't swing low

Jonah told the Ninevites to pray

God says He'll give you forty days

King told his people to repent

Nobody eat God might relent

Jonah didn't want them to believe

He sat down out of town to grieve

God said Why don't you like to see

A hundred-twenty thousand turn to Me
