Episode 17: Jesus, Your Only Covering

FAITH WITHOUT WORKS  

For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead. (James 2:26)  

There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—(Ephesians 1:4)  

remembering before our God and Father your WORK OF FAITH and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Thessalonians 1:3)  

Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you BELIEVE in him whom he has sent.” (John 6:28-29)  

We are the ones knocking on the door and asking for bread in the passage in James… 

 And I tell you, ASK, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; KNOCK, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke 11:9-13)

ONE MEDIATOR  

For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, (1 Timothy 2:5)  

The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office, but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. (Hebrews 7:23-24) 

The law was given through angels and entrusted to a mediator. A mediator, however, implies more than one; but God is one. (Galatians 3:19-20)

for you are still of the flesh. For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way? For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not being merely human? What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.  (1 Corinthians 3:3-7) 

I am coming soon. Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown. (Revelation 3:7)  

not exercising authority over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. (1 Peter 5:3)
