Chega

Known as Chega, 23-year-old unsigned artist Megan Mortensen hails originally from Pittsburgh, PA citing influences all across the spectrum; from classic soul artist such as Etta James and Otis Redding to more recent artists such as Fiona Apple, Hozier, and the Alabama Shakes. Chega grew up with a musical theater background and has been performing on stages since she was a small child. Through writing music as a teenager, she discovered that that was her true passion and began playing gigs around Los Angeles shortly after moving at 16. She took some time off throughout the following years to deal with substance abuse and trauma issues, later on often reflecting on those struggles as inspiration for her music. In December 2017, Chega returned to the Los Angeles music scene, releasing her debut single “I Am Not Yours”, a timely, powerful alternative song and music video on sexual assault. In her forthcoming EP “Compulsive", it is clear that Chega’s signature sound is evolving as she finds her place in today’s blues genre. A pianist, vocalist, and songwriter; Chega’s music also heavily showcases strong blues guitar and groovy bass lines. Her fusion of blues and old school soul with an Americana vibe of modern times ensure an originality and signature to her music
