Rydm City, real name David Ekarika Essien, formerly known as DeeDee Jojo, was born at Feriprod hospital, Garki, Abuja, Nigeria on 26 July 2000. The twenty-three-year-old is the last born and only son left in his family. Suffering the loss of his elder brother and his father, Rydm City found solace in music. A huge influence on his truthful and vivid writing comes from his humble beginnings in the trenches of Karu Village, then Kurudu (FCT) where he spent the majority of his lifetime.
Rydm City is not only a gifted singer but a mavin in dance, visual art, fashion, and design. Music, however, owns the biggest chunk of his heart because it is sentimental to him. He passionately recalls when his late father got him a guitar to practice with when he was just four years old. It's only until the university does Rydm City look into recording music. Using the alias DeeDee Jojo, he records a few interesting demos that eventually find their way to Gee Baller, a buzzing Nigerian musician, and music business mogul. Rydm City signed a lucrative deal with Gee Baller's fresh music company called Greatness Musiq LLC which boast a powerful roster including Erigga, Gee Baller, and more talents.
The Abuja-born singer has a powerful vocal range, with a unique ability to finish a full song crooning with only a falsetto. Coupled with a pen influenced by his musical heroes - Fela Kuti, Lucky Dube, Bob Marley, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Brenda, Grace man, and Celine Dion, Rydm
City's music is that which first-time listeners cannot ignore. He describes his music as a symbol of culture & peace to the people. His go to genres are Afrobeats, Lofi, and R&B.
