Making waves in all sorts of ways, Lakeway has a distinctive and versatile sound that encompasses grime, jungle and footwork elements. Making his name via a series of releases for Diffrent Music and sister label SweetBox in the mid-2010s, Lakeway’s hyperactive, hybridized original productions, bootlegs and exclusive cuts quickly struck a chord with some of the scene’s biggest names. Having signed to Med School for a series of EPs before the label’s closure last year, he returned to the Diffrent fold in 2020 with the third installment of his ‘Misadventures’ trilogy, and this autumn will release ‘Wave Rider’ — a five-track EP of high-energy rave concoctions. Only in his early twenties, Lakeway has already performed at the iconic Fabric nightclub, graced BBC Radio 1 with an exclusive guest mix and received serious support from DJ Mag and Mixmag. An eclectic list of influences includes the likes of renowned beatsmith Sinjin Hawke and dubstep taste makers Kahn & Neek, while contemporary junglist icon Sully and drum & bass trailblazer Rockwell have also played major roles in honing Lakeway’s sound.
