A native of Orlando, Florida, Morrison was raised in a musical family, the son of David "Dah-Vi" Morrison who had played alongside his siblings in the '70s Chicago-based gospel outfit the Morrison Echoes. Growing up, he took piano lessons per his grandmother's wishes and by his teens was making hip-hop beats with his brothers. After high school, he honed his skills studying music composition and recording at Alabama's Oakwood University.
