Born and raised in Enugu, Nigeria known to many as International Derek Effect.
Curious about emerging within music, Derek, decided to join his brother, Flavour of Africa, who at the time was honing in on his musical talent, regularly performing at local bars. Derek envisioned one day he would be performing just like his brother.
Being one to strike whilst the iron is hot, Derek invested in a used compact disc player and mixes and would play a selection of mixes in the corner after his brother's performances.
Derek soon built a strong following, with club and bar revelers requesting special mixes. This encouraged him to save more funds, which enabled him to buy a used professional mixer, from friend and popular personality at the time, Bala. From here, Derek performed sets at small gigs, under the mentorship of his brother.
Now an established in his own right, and under the management of 2nite Music Group/Entertainment. For Derek it’s all about mood, vibe and hypnotic grooves. Irrespective of musical preferences, Derek mixes are guaranteed to get everyone moving!
While being the DJ for his brother Flavour of Africa, he came from behind the stand and started performing.
