Dave Grymm

Rising from the projects of New York City’s Lower East Side, Nuyorican artist Dave Grymm
emerged at the turn of the century with a series of mixtapes chronicling life on these New York streets.

After a nearly ten-year hiatus, he made a triumphant return to the underground scene in 2017 to cope
with the passing of his cousin and close collaborator Jon the Baptist. The streets claimed his
cousin’s life, in turn reigniting Grymm’s passion for music and poetry. The result was “Echoes”,
a nine-track project featuring some of his most thoughtful, introspective verses to date.
Dave Grymm’s fundamental principle is a strict refusal to conform. At this stage, he
doesn’t need to follow trends; he follows his artistry wherever it takes him. He can be abstract or
detailed, thought provoking or deeply personal. Traces of his heritage can be
found in his music, whether it's in his spanglish rhymes or his honest discussions about
family and culture.

In April 2020, Grymm released his second official project online, “The Golden Tape”. The
album pays homage to the raw lyricism and sample-heavy beats of hip hop’s ‘golden era’ in the
1990’s. Currently, he’s working on a new album, titled “Hello, Dystopia!”, as well as an upcoming group
project: a posthumous album for Jon the Baptist called "The Fifth and the Last", featuring his old acapellas with new verses from his crew Street Camp.
