The Collection

On the surface, the name of NC's The Collection’s new album, ‘Entropy,’ may seem deceptive. Over the 4 years since their debut, Ars Moriendi, the band shed weight, becoming an efficient touring band, got praise from NPR, toured nationally with The Oh Hellos and Lowland Hum, and performed dynamic sets at CMJ and NMS. The single from their 2017 follow-up, Sing Of The Moon, received over 4.5 Mil streams, and the release tour brought people across the country.
Even Entropy’s single Beautiful Life is about finding order within the natural world. Beneath all of this is another story.
During the previous year, band-members David and Mira Joy ended their marriage. The next months were a chaotic chain of events that left them with a totaled car, no house, no work, few friends, and dwindling bandmates.
Starting over in a new city, Wimbish began writing a new project, freed from assumed expectations. The result was the most intimate batch of songs he had written. As the band confronted it's possible death, an enduring core emerged. Members Hayden, Joshua, and Graham lent their performances to the songs, birthing The Collection’s 3rd full-length. With the addition of Joshua and Sarah, the band finally found its footing.
And that is Entropy: Meant to document the decline into disorder, the album became a testimony to The Collection’s own experience. Now, with the wisdom of hindsight, the band is back sharing what they’ve learned: on the other side of disorder lies a new sense of beauty.”
