As a solo indie artist, this young vocalist with the old soul brandishes a distinct blend of neo-soul, funk, alternative R&B and a hint of jazz groove. Earlier this year, she showed her vulnerabilities of coping with a breakup on single “Sanity.” But now, she shares her heart once again on “Did You Know.” Set for release this summer, she is also planning the release of her tentatively titled debut EP Lola Ladae ́ Live.
A native of St. Louis, Mo., Lola moved to Atlanta in 2018 after earning a Bachelor’s degree in animal science from the University of Missouri. She was set to enroll in graduate school to become a veterinarian, but something was pulling at her heartstrings that she couldn’t ignore...music.
She landed a job playing bass guitar for local band The Tulips soon after relocating to the city and spent the next few months on tour. The band played gigs from coast to coast and even across the pond playing in Europe.
“I learned a lot from playing with the Tulips. It was an awesome experience,” she recalls. “And not only that, I gained a lot of contacts both in the States and in Europe.”
In 2019, she founded the Basement Unplugged, a black artist and entrepreneurial organization that caters to upcoming musicians and startup business owners by organizing different community events based around the arts....more
