Burna Boy Vs Wizkid: Who Has More International Recognition?

We know that once it comes to the global market for Afro mjusic in Africa, Wizkid and Davido are the first names to be mentioned. This is because over the years, both music stars have had numerous achievements in the global music space as well as numerous collaborations with top music stars in the world.

However, 2019 ushered in a new name in the global scene for Africa music. Popular Nigerian Afro fusion and dance hall musician, Burna Boy gained massive international recognition in one year which many people claim is bigger than all the achievements Wizkid and Davido have garnered over the years.

No doubt, when it comes to afro music in the world today, Burna Boy is one of the first names that would be mentioned.

In only one year, he received the BET award for the best international music act. He also performed alongside top musicians in the world at Coachella 2019.

He also has a song on Beyonce’s executive-produced album The Lion King: The Gift. To crown it all up, he received a nomination from one of the most prestigious music awards in the world, Grammy. This achievement was celebrated far and wide being one of the few African musicians to achieve such feat.

Certainly, we cannot overlook Wizkid’s influence in the global market as well. Wizkid’s achievements include being the firstAfrican pop star to perform and sell out Royal Albert Hall in London. Wizkid’s ‘Come Closer’ featuring Drake made him the first African artiste whose video hit the million mark within the first 24 hours of its release.

He is also the first African artiste to bag an award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). Apart from music, he was also the first Nigerian – if not African – Musician ever to model for fashion giant Dolce & Gabana.
