Samsung Unveils Galaxy S23 Ultra

Samsung yesterday (February 1st) announced the Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphone, which will be the company's first flagship for 2023 and the successor to the 2022's Galaxy S22 Ultra (carrying on the spirit of the defunct Galaxy Note line-up). It packs some minimal upgrade over its predecessor.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra uses an aluminum frame and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front. The phone as well as the S Pen are IP68 water and dust resistant.

The display on the S23 Ultra is similar to its predecessor. It's a 6.8-inch, 1440p Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a dynamic 120Hz refresh rate. Samsung claims 240Hz touch sampling rate, 2,000 nits of peak brightness, and 100 percent DCI- P3 coverage. The display also includes an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra offers a 200MP F/1.8 main camera as the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Next to it are a 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera and a couple of telephoto snappers - 10MP F/2.4 3x and 10MP F/4.9 10x periscope. At the front you get a 12MP selfie camera.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra comes with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chipset. In terms of memory and storage, the S23 Ultra will start at 8GB memory with 256GB of storage. Other variants will feature up to 12GB of RAM and a choice of either 512GB, or 1TB of storage.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra will ship with One UI 5.1 running on top of Android 13 OS. It has a 5000mAh battery with support for up to 45W fast charging using a wired charger and 10W wireless charging support.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra will be available in Phantom Black, Cream, Green and Lavender colour options. The base 8/256GB version of the smartphone starts from $1,200 in the US and ₦1, 295,900 for 12/256GB.
