Huawei Unveils Mate 50 Series

Huawei held a launch event today in China where they unveiled Mate 50 series. The Mate 50 series comprises of the base model Mate 50, Mate 50 Pro, Mate 50e and Mate 50 RS Porsche Design edition.

The Mate 50 series is a direct successor to last year Mate 40 series and its pack some upgrade over its predecessor.

Hauwei Mate 50

The Mate 50 features a 6.7 inch OLED display that has a FHD+ (2700 x 1224 pixels) resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate and 300Hz touch sampling rate. This panel also supports HDR, P3 color gamut and can output 1.07 billion colors.

The Mate 50 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset with support for 4G connectivity (the device couldn't use 5G connection because of US ban) paired with 8GB of RAM.

Software wise, the device comes pre-installed with HarmonyOS 3.0, and Huawei confirmed that the device offer support for satellite connection. This means that the device can send a message and make a call when there's no network coverage.

For photography, the Mate 50 rear offers a triple camera set-up which consists of a 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor, accompanied by a 13MP Sony IMX688 ultra wide angle lens and a 12MP telephoto zoom lens that offers up to 5x optical zoom capabilities and OIS support. The device also supports the first ever XMAGE imaging technology that will help improve the photography experience. The front utilise a 13MP sensor for selfie and video recording.

The Mate 50 packs a 4,460mAh battery capacity that offer supports for 66W wired fast charging and up to 50W wireless fast charging.

The Mate 50 Pro features a 6.74-inch OLED with 120Hz refresh rate and 10-bit color depth at 1212 x 2616px resolution.

The Mate 50 Pro is also powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset with support for 4G connectivity (the device couldn't use 5G connection because of US ban) paired with 8GB of RAM.

Price
The Huawei Mate 50 is available for a price tag of ¥4,999 ($720), ¥5,499 ($791) and 6,499 Yuan ($935) for 128GB, 256GB, and a 512GB model respectively.

The Pro model will go for ¥6,799 ($977), and ¥7,799 ($1,121) for 256GB, and a 512GB model respectively. It available for purchased in Obsidian Black, Frost Silver, Streamer Purple, Daybreak Kunlun, and Kunlun Xiaguang colour options.

Huawei has yet to reveal when the device will be made available for global markets.
