SAMSUNG UNVEILS GALAXY Z FOLD 4

Samsung held an Unpacked event today (August 10th) where they unveiled the much awaited Galaxy Z Fold 4 alongside Z Flip 4 and Watch 5 series. The device offers minimal upgrade over its predecessor.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 inner screen features a 7.6-inch QHD+ AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, while it's closed the outer screen features a 6.2-inch AMOLED display which also includes a 120Hz refresh rate support.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 fabbed on 4nm mode, the chipset is paired with 12GB of RAM, 256GB/512GB/1TB internal storage.

The device comes pre-installed with Samsung One UI 4.1.1 based on Android 12L OS -that's optimised for foldable and tablet devices -. Samsung also includes a PC-like Taskbar on the bottom of the device that allows for instant access to recent apps, most used apps, etc, and it also makes it easier to do multitasking easily. To make the device more resource useful, Samsung has optimised Facebook, Youtube, Netflix, Disney+, and Microsoft Teams to better utilise the foldable form factor, while apps like Microsoft’s Outlook, Office, Teams, and Google Meet now offer tablet-like functionality.

Samsung also introduced Flex Mode, which makes the device folded in a laptop-like position. This activates the camera for video calling in apps that support the mode. For Apps that's yet to support this mode, the lower half of the display turns into a touch pad and a shortcuts bar.

For photography, the device rear offer a triple camera set-up which consists of a 50MP main sensor which support OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) and EIS (Electronic Image Stabilisation) paired with a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 10MP telephoto lens that supports 30x Space Zoom. The outer display utilise a 10MP main sensor for selfie and video recording while the inner screen utilise a 4MP under display camera sensor.

Powering the device is 4,400mAh battery capacity with support for 25W wired fast charging.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 will be available for a retail price of $1,799/€1,800 for the 12GB/256GB model, while the 12GB/512GB model will for €1,920 and the high-end 12GB/1TB storage options will retail for €2,160. You can grab the device in Phantom Black, Beige, and Graygreen colour options.
