RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH BEING A FOOTBALL FAN

There's no gain saying that being football fan is very cool and fun. On the other hand, it is risky. These health risks is not only suffered by football fans but in all facets of sports. In this article, our concern is as regards the ills (health and life risks) suffered among football fans.
You'll agree with me that if your fan club has a match against a strong(er) club, you'll be panicking. Your mind won't be at rest, your level of cortisol (stress hormone) increases. You get to notice the stress more a day to the match and on the match day. Your expectation is a draw or win by chance. Some people tend to lose appetite while others overfeed and drink a lot and it's worse when your team loses especially when you most expected them to win, maybe in a final.
Two cases I've witnessed of elderly men who suffered hypertension. The first broke into stroke when Nigeria lost a match while the other died when Arsenal lost a match. They had the expectation for their fan club to win but so unfortunate their expectations were cut short.
A football match is mostly enjoyed when watched in the midst of fellows but consider this - while in a viewing centre or stadium, many fans will be taking loud savaging the losing team which always result to a fight. In 2008 when Manchester United played UCL final against Chelsea, Utd won the trophy and a Chelsea fan was furious, broke into fight after exchange of curse words, the angry Chelsea fan broke bottle and killed the Utd fan.
Furthermore, risks is not only suffered out of loss but winning inclusive. I witnessed a case when Chelsea first won UCL, fans drove in motorcycles along the streets, shouting and wailing with high speed, they ended up having accident, some injured while some died.
There's also a case where fans went to a viewing centre made of zinc roofing to watch a match in stormy weather. Rain storm caught the match midway and fell electric pole while there was still power supply, the electric wires fell on the zinc roof and many were electrocuted and died.
This incident took place in Nyaghassang Community, Calabar Municipality, Cross River State, Nigeria when fans were watching the return leg match between Manchester United and Anderlecht in the UEFA Europa league in April 2017.
Furthermore, different club fans become rivalries to the extent that they cause havoc in the stadium when a conflict arises. There are cases where fans set stadium ablaze, big fight breaks out and many get injured. This post has a lot to tell <ChileoNation's Post> Click on it to open the post.
Also, a situation where players and fans board transportation to have a live view in the stadium, they end up in accident where some will be injured while others die.
The darkest day in Manchester 'S history was when the team were travelling back from a European Cup tie against Red Star Belgrade when their aircraft stopped in Germany to refuel. The first two attempts to take off from Munich airport were aborted; following a third attempt, the plane crashed in Former Munich-Riem Airport where 23 died, 19 had nonfatal injury on 6 February 1958.
My advice is that, don't take football too serious as a fan, especially when you're not earning from it. Just roll with fun. If your fan club wins, you celebrate cool, if they lose, you just maintain your normal life.
