According to the ‘Inauma’ hitmaker, dating in one’s twenties is a waste of time since neither party has yet to fully find themselves by that age.
Sauti Sol lead singer Bien-Aime Baraza now says he cannot recommend dating for someone in their twenties.
Speaking in an interview on Mseto East Africa, Bien said people within that age bracket should try to work on themselves first and travel.
According to the ‘Inauma’ hitmaker, dating in one’s twenties is a waste of time since neither party has yet to fully find themselves by that age.
“I can’t give advice to someone in their twenties to grow in a relationship, at least work on yourself, travel, also date other people here and there, but I can’t give advice to someone in their 20's to grow in a relationship, it is a waste of time,” he said.
“You don't know yourself and the person you are with also doesn't know themselves, what do you think you’re doing? You’re trying to figure things out together, but at the end of the day, that is, I think it's better to be alone if you're in your 20s.”
Bien went ahead to explain why Sauti Sol band members decided to embark on solo projects for a while after their contract with Universal Music Group (UMG) had expired.
He said they debated on whether to renew the UMG contract, but ultimately decided that each of them would just do their own thing.
“What happened was that we completed our contract with Universal, and after that, it was either we do another one or just terminate the contract,” he stated.
“We realized it was prudent not to do another term with them and decided to re-establish our independence. For Sauti Sol, we recorded another album for independent artists. But for the time being, all of our music is classified as Sol Generation.”
Bien acknowledged that despite the fact that working with UMG had been an amazing experience, Sauti Sol band members could still achieve all their goals independently.
The singer stated, matter of factly, artists no longer need to be signed to record labels in order to succeed in their craft.
“After working with Universal I realized one thing, that going international is not for the person whom you working with, it is in your mind. So for an artist you have to elevate yourself. As much as we have worked with them, I cannot say that we have had a bad relationship or experience with Universal, it has been fine. But I can only say that the things we got with Universal we can still achieve while still being independent as Sauti Sol,” he said.
