Burna Boy has released his sixth studio album titled Love Damini this Friday July 8th, featuring star studded guest appearances from J Hus, Popcaan, Khalid, Ed Sheeran, J Balvin, Blxst and Kehlani across the LP’s 19 tracks.
As a follow up to the Grammy winning Twice As Tall, the African Giant had big shoes to fill and you’ll have to keep reading to find out if I think he topped his previous album.
Though the 1 hour playtime of Love Damini could have been trimmed by cutting out some filler tracks that hold no weight, I must admit it’s been a delightful experience listening to this album.
The album is brimming with depth, soul and inspiration. Burna shares with listeners his mistakes, heart desires, victories and treasures as he takes one step further in the third floor of life.
In the album opener Glory which takes too long to pick up with the unnecessary prelude from a south African choral group, Burna Boy shares his fears which include falling off and heartbreak he experienced after losing his dog.
The vocal performance on this song was lackluster but I forgive him cause the song’s lyrical content is hitting.

The guest stars on this album were all necessary additions each having a significant contribution to the album with the best feature being J Hus whose exemplary performance on cloak and dagger prove their chemistry and team work remains undefeated adding on to their top tier collaborations that go as way back as 2017’s sekkle down.
Cloak & Dagger ft. J Hus
As much as “For My Hand” with Ed Sheeran isn’t the monumental musical moment that we anticipated, it’s a heartwarming romantic song whose lyrics touch on faithfulness, companionship and acceptance. I see this song being a favorite among many due to its relatability and infectiousness.
For My Hand ft. Ed Sheeran
Rollercoaster is a perfect blend of afrobeats and reggeaton serving caribbean vibes that feels as beautiful as watching sunset on the beach. J Balvin did his thing as always with an incredible vocal and melodic performance.
Rollercoaster ft. J Balvin
Khalid’s clear cut vocals make “Wild Dreams,” an enjoyable listening experience as Burna Boy urges listeners to have big dreams and rely on hardwork and God to achieve them.

Two songs that are sure to get you on your feet on this Album is definitely Kilometre which was the perfect choice for lead single as it’s an instant smash and Different size featuring victony with its the groovy amapiano beat that will have your head bopping and feet tapping.
Different Size ft. Victony
Not to forget Last last which is one iconic banger of a breakup song that will have you grooving and bopping to it’s reassuring tone and mood.
Last Last
My favorite songs on the album is How Bad Could It Be
This song is a heart wrenching acoustic ballad with a minimalist production of pluckering strings in which Burna’s vocal performance is to die for evoking emotion in listeners with his percussive vocal style. The lyrics are deep addressing anger, anxiety, and depression having a motivational touch due to its relatability. The song feels like a shoulder to cry on and a warm hug from a loved one, hands down the best song on Love Damini .
How Bad Could It Be
On Love Damini, Burna Boy expresses emotional intelligence and wisdom well beyond his years tackling various relatable emotions like anxiety, regret and depression whilst giving his best vocal performance yet with his rich velvety baritone vocals full rigor and comfort.
The album is versatile incorporating different genres under his afrofusion sound in which he blends; R&B, Jamaican dancehall, reggaeton, Congolese rumba, hip-hop and more hooking listeners from start to finish with a song for everyone. Love Damini is arguably Burna Boy’s magnum opus and is definitely the best Afropop album released in 2022.
