Kanye West makes nod to Kim Kardashian in emotional BET Awards speech

The rapper came out of his hiatus to honor Sean "Diddy" Combs with a Lifetime Achievement Award

With a surprise appearance at the 2022 BET Awards on Sunday, Kanye West ended his hiatus and gave Sean "Diddy" Combs a Lifetime Achievement Award.

West's entrance astounded the crowd because he had a mask, sunglasses, and a hat covering his entire face.

West referred to Diddy as a "king" and said that over the years, he has sought "advice" from him. Diddy founded Bad Boy Records, one of the most influential labels in the genre.

"He inspires so many of my choices, so many of my life choices. My wife['s] choices," said West referring to his ex-wife Kim Kardashian. "Thanks for that, Puff."

West also spoke about his absence from the music scene, saying, "I just want to declare myself legally dead for a year. I just want to be off the grid. Puff is pretty persistent, but I had to think, bro, it's like, people get amnesia."

"Like, I should never have Puff have to ever call more than one time," he added. "Any of us in this room, if Puff ever need us, we need to jump and be there. This man has been through [and] survived a lot of stuff and broke down a lot of doors so we can be standing. ... He broke down so many doors of classism, taste, swag.
