New FIFA World Rankings see Argentina rise but France slide down
Nigeria
19
The latest FIFA World Rankings are out and there’s a distinct South American feel to the top three with the World Cup just five months away.
For the first time in nearly five years, both Brazil and Argentina occupy spots in the top three.
Third is the highest Argentina have been since 2016.
World champions France have dropped to fourth — they haven’t been lower than that since before they won the 2018 World Cup — but remain above England in fifth.
Germany, meanwhile, rise but only to 11th, making it four years since they were in the top ten.
Italy, in sixth, are the highest ranked team that won’t be at the World Cup in Qatar.
