Why Man City signed Erling Haaland as club announces transfer

Manchester City signed Erling Haaland because they predict he can get even better, according to Director of Football Txiki Begiristain.

City announced that Haaland's £51m signing from Borussia Dortmund has been completed, with the 21-year-old joining on a five year deal. With a relatively-affordable release clause, City had to beat off competition from other European giants, although the cost of wages and agent fees takes the total expenditure to far higher.

And Begiristain says such an investment will provide City with value for money after winning the race for a player who scored 86 goals and added 23 assists in 89 games for Dortmund. He netted 29 times in 27 outings for Red Bull Salzburg before that, and City are confident his track record will see him excel at the Etihad.
