Black Adam Releases First Poster (and New Tagline) Ahead of the Trailer Debut

DC's highly anticipated Dwayne Johnson-led superhero flick, Black Adam, revealed a dynamic poster and great tagline ahead of the trailer debut.


Just a day ahead of the highly-anticipated first trailer for Black Adam, the film revealed a new poster and tagline.

Warner Bros. Pictures teased the trailer in a post to its Twitter account, sharing the brand new poster for the upcoming film. The poster depicts a shaded profile of the titular hero, played by Dwayne Johnson, wearing his black suit with a faintly-glowing lightning bolt on the chest. The poster also adds a new tagline to the film, teasing the character's dark history and anti-hero status. "The world needed a hero," the tagline reads. "It got Black Adam." The full image can be seen below.


Black Adam tells the story of a super-powered Egyptian antihero, also called Teth-Adam, who escapes imprisonment after 5,000 years. The film has been in development for over a decade, with Johnson attached to the project as far back as 2007. Following numerous delays and the creation of the DC Extended Universe, Warner Bros. revived the film from developmental hell. Even then, DC and Warner Bros. had to figure out the issues with Black Adam's relationship to Shazam, which saw a solo film in 2019 with a sequel on its way, before the Johnson-led project could see the light of day.


Despite 15 years of troubles and tribulations, Johnson has continued to express enthusiasm for the film. While sharing a behind the scenes image of Black Adam's costume, Johnson said, "Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of playing some great (fun) characters over the years, but none speak to my DNA more than this antihero known as the man in black, Teth Adam".

Producer Hiram Garcia revealed plans to make Black Adam a multi-film project. "We have always had a vision of where we saw we wanted this to go. We've never viewed this as just a one-off movie," he said. "There's always been a rough, kind of loose outline in our head on an imaginary white board of how we'd want to do it." Garcia added that plans for the franchise do partly hinge on how well the film is received. "As we're making that, we start to look at that a little bit more. But, again, ultimately, we need the movie to be received well and we want fans to like it, but there's 100% a vision of what we'd like to be doing in a multiple picture aspect when it comes to Black Adam and the [Justice Society of America]."

Black Adam is set to hit theaters on Oct. 21.
