A new image from Love and Thunder shows Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Jane Foster's Mighty Thor (Natalie Portman) in costume and ready for battle.

A brand new image from Thor: Love and Thunder shows Thor and Jane Foster's Mighty Thor teaming up in similar costumes. Now that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has kicked off the run of Phase 4 MCU films in 2022, Thor: Love and Thunder is the next entry coming down the line, premiering in theaters on July 8, 2022. The film is the fourth solo movie starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor and the first to have a returning director - Taika Waititi, who helmed 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, which has so far been the highest-grossing Thor movie, as well as being the fourth highest-rated Marvel movie on Rotten Tomatoes overall.
Love and Thunder will follow up on the events of Avengers: Endgame and feature Thor rehabilitating while stepping down from being a superhero. Essentially, he is going through a midlife crisis and trying to discover whether his true purpose is being a hero and leader. However, this coincides with the arrival of Gorr, the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who wants to live up to his name and eliminate every God in Asgard and beyond. Now, he will have to reteam with Thor: Ragnarok's Korg (Waititi) and Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), as well as Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) his former flame from Thor and Thor: The Dark World, who has now become The Mighty Thor.

Today, Empire Magazine shared a brand new exclusive photo from Thor: Love and Thunder. The image shows Thor and Jane Foster both kitted out for battle in their ceremonial Thor armor. One particularly notable element is that Foster is the one wielding the hammer Mjolnir, so at this point in the film she has already proven she is worthy. Check out the image below:
The return of Jane Foster after eight years is certainly going to prove challenging for Thor to wrap his head around. The fact that she is taking on his mantle, especially when he has willfully discarded it, will also be confounding, without even taking into consideration the fact that she now has her own version of his costume. Seeing someone he loves taking on the duties and the risks that he formerly had seems to have spurred him to fight once more, but it remains unclear exactly how this story will resolve.

It will certainly be interesting to see how the fighting dynamic changes when Thor is without Mjolnir. He has already proven in several films that he still has skills to offer when the hammer is on his person. But Thor: Love and Thunder will see him battling alongside someone with his exact skillset, so he will have to learn to be a part of a team in which he is not an inherently necessary part.
