Ginger root comes from the Zingiber officinale plant, and it has been used in Chinese and Indian medicine for thousands of years. Ginger may help relieve nausea and vomiting and aid digestion. Antioxidants and other nutrients in ginger root may help prevent or treat arthritis, inflammation, and various types of infection. Ginger may also reduce the risk of diabetes, cancer, and other health problems. Accoroding to Healthline and Medical news today, here are 3 medical reasons why women should increase their intake on ginger.

1. Treat many forms of nausea, especially morning sickness for pregnant women.

Ginger can aid with morning sickness and nausea after cancer treatment, according to Medical News Today. Gingerols and shogaols, which produce odors, can help avoid nausea and vomiting. However, depending on the type of ginger, the levels of those chemicals can vary. Dried ginger, fresh ginger, and powdered ginger tea were found to have the highest levels of gingerol, according to the study.

2. Ginger helps to relieve menstrual pain.

The pain experienced during the menstrual cycle is referred to as dysmenorrhea. Discomfort treatment, particularly menstruation pain, is one of the traditional uses of ginger. Ginger was found to be just as effective as NSAIDs in reducing pain. Research found that ginger is more effective than a placebo and is on an equal level with medications like mefenamic acid and acetaminophen/caffeine/ibuprofen (Novafen).

3. It can aid in the fight against infections.

When compared to men, women are more susceptible to infections. Gingerol can help prevent infections. Ginger extract has been shown to suppress the growth of different bacteria. Fresh ginger may also help prevent respiratory infections caused by the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

Note: Although ginger is safe, but if you're pregnant, see your doctor before consuming high doses. Ginger is not advisible for pregnant women who are about to give birth or have suffered miscarriages. Ginger is also not recommended if you have a history of vaginal bleeding or clotting problems.
