May 2022 will see the release of some highly anticipated movies from different genres and many that went through various delays, such as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first movie of the year, a new take on a Stephen King story, Alex Garland’s newest project, the return of Maverick, and two movies based on very different TV shows. The coronavirus pandemic continues, but that isn’t stopping cinemas anymore as they are still open and working as usual, while people slowly but surely regain a sense of normalcy. This has allowed studios to release all those movies that had to be delayed, though many are still opting for a simultaneous release in theaters and streaming/digital.
April saw a variety of movies arriving in theaters, of which many were delayed multiple times due to the pandemic, such as Sony’s Morbius, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Michael Bay’s Ambulance, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, the animated adventure The Bad Guys, the black comedy The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent, and Robert Eggers’ The Northman. The only movie that got a simultaneous release on streaming was All The Old Knives, which is also available to stream on Amazon Prime Video, while many others will arrive on different platforms 45 days after their theatrical releases.
May will see a shorter list of movies than last month, but it will bring some highly-anticipated titles, such as the return of Doctor Strange, a new version of a Stephen King novel, Alex Garland’s newest movie, the long-awaited sequel to Top Gun, two movies based on very different TV shows, and more. Here’s every movie coming to theaters in May 2022.
