The Avengers franchise was born in 2012 with the release of Avengers. Downey Jr.'s Iron Man, Johansson's Black Widow, Chris Evans' Captain America, Chris Hemsworth's Thor, Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye, and Mark Ruffalo's Hulk headlined the film, which also featured the likes of Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury and Tom Hiddleston's Loki. All six original members returned in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, which introduced new heroes such as Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch and Anthony Mackie's Falcon to the Avengers franchise. 2018's Avengers: Infinity War was Marvel's most successful film at the time of its release and showcased even more fan-favorite superheroes, including Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther, Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange, and Tom Holland's Spider-Man. 2019's Avengers: Endgame surpassed the astronomical success of Infinity War and delivered an epic conclusion to the Avengers saga.

All four Avengers films rank in the top-15 highest-grossing films of all time, with 2019's Avengers: Endgame coming in at No. 2. As the most lucrative set of films ever created, the Avengers franchise granted its actors, especially its original cast members, sizable salaries. At an all-time profit of nearly $2.8 billion, Endgame saw its main cast receive their highest paychecks, which increased from Infinity War's earnings of just over $2 billion. Avengers' overall profits come in at roughly $1.5 billion, while Age of Ultron stands as the franchises' lowest-grossing title with earnings at $1.4 billion. Some of the Avengers movies' main cast have concluded their MCU tenure, while others continue to appear in projects. Here's the breakdown of how much each of the six original Avengers actors made from the four Avengers films.

Robert Downey Jr.

According to Forbes, the Iron Man actor's base salary stood at $20 million, though Downey Jr. had secured a deal that additionally granted him 8% of the film's profit to land him around the $75 million mark. Tony Stark's demise in Endgame remains one of the MCU's most memorable moments, which drew Downey Jr,'s 11-year stint as Iron Man to a close.

Scarlett Johansson

While a specific figure has not been made public, Johansson was estimated to have earned in the low seven figures, like her costars. The actress saw her stock rise in Age of Ultron when her salary increased to $20 million. Johansson earned $15 up front for Infinity War and Endgame, though was reported to have made around $35 million in total from the final Avengers entry once bonuses factored in. With Natasha's sacrificial death in Endgame and the long-awaited release of her Black Widow solo film in 2021, Johansson's MCU tenure came to a close.

Chris Hemsworth

Ruffalo never starred in a solo film and It's unclear whether or not he will play the green mutant on screen again.
