Doctor Strange’s Multiverse Can Be Phase 4’s Best Superhero Change

Doctor Strange’s Multiverse Can Be Phase 4’s Best Superhero Change
Doctor Strange’s Multiverse Can Be Phase 4’s Best Superhero Change The upcoming Marvel sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has one of the best superhero transformation opportunities of MCU's Phase 4. The latest trailer for Doctor Strange 2 shows plenty of chaos unfolding in what should be another Marvel box-office hit. The Multiverse of Madness will follow sorcerer Stephen Strange (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) after his actions in Spider-Man: No Way Home caused openings in the multiverse.

The trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness introduced some exciting potential for Phase 4 of the #MCU . A significant scene was where Doctor Strange seemed to be traveling through a variety of different dimensions–which makes sense given the title. Comic book fans might have recognized a moment where Strange seemed to dissolve into block-like shapes. This may very well have been a reference to the House of M block dimension. Another moment showed the possible X-Men location of Savage Land introduced.

Along with the block dimension and The Savage Land, viewers may have also noticed another reality jumping moment in the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer. For a brief couple of frames, it appears Doctor Strange is coming out of a completely animated universe. This could imply there is a part of the multiverse that is designed in the same way as the comics and animated television shows. More time in this dimension could mean major rule changes and possibilities as there are unique advantages when it comes to an animated format versus live-action. With a more seamless suspension of disbelief from the audience, animated action sequences can be more fantastical. Not to say the MCU has dialed back their grandiose CGI battles, but there is a difference in the captivating style of animated combat. This animated universe is also the chance to play around with character costumes, as well as introduce Easter egg moments from comics and television series.
Doctor Strange’s Multiverse Can Be Phase 4’s Best Superhero Change There are certain characters that have only made animated or comic book appearances, and this new dimension would be a great way to bring them into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Long before Marvel took the animated format of What If...?, they had classics such as the X-Men (1992) show and the Spider-Man (1994) series. While some characters are already confirmed, such as the surprising Doctor Strange 2 trailer Professor X cameo, there are still other possibilities. Many animated characters could still be brought in through this dimension.

This exciting development, while minimal in the trailer, could make a huge impact on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the future MCU overall. This gives Marvel a shot at switching mediums, even in a live-action movie, and shifting expectations about what their films can be. Not only could an animated portion of the film be fun to watch, but it is also the perfect chance for the MCU to introduce wild new concepts and characters into the multiverse.
