10 RAPPERS THAT WILL DOMINATE 2022
These are the rappers I feel will be inescapable this year if they drop new music as their catalogue has been nothing short of hits and mind blowing rap moments.
1)Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick Lamar quickly appeared and disappeared in the rap scene in 2021 after delivering two masterful features in his prodigy’s debut album, The Melodic Blue, in the singles ‘family ties’ and ‘range brothers’, the former earning him a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Performance for his contributions.
Kendrick hinted at the release last year on an instagram post stating it would be his last album under Top Dawg Entertainment label. Kendrick’s previous albums have received widespread critical acclaim for Kendrick’s introspective songwriting tackling social justice among other conscious rap topics.
Best believe Kendrick will be on top of several year end lists and reiginite the debate on who is the greatest of all time this century a title he is contending with Drake, J.Cole and Nicki Minaj for.
2)Cardi B.
Cardi B proved in late 2020 that she’s no stranger to monumental comebacks with her return single WAP featuring Megan Thee Stallion breaking the internet and streaming records earning Cardi her 4th number one single on billboard and 5X platinum plaque.
UP followed the momentum before Cardi took a break to deliver her second born child, promising to drop her highly anticipated sophomore album this year.
Following Cardi’s career trajectory, this album is shaping up to be a massive success already having 2 number one singles before it’s release.
3)Nicki Minaj
Now Nicki is well passed her prime years no one is denying that, but she is still the greatest female rapper to ever do it having an undeniable impact in Hip Hop.
Her fifth studio album is highly anticipated due to Nicki’s captivating alter egos such roman and barbie who each have a unique flow and delivery, her ability to switch between singing and hardcore rapping is also thrilling a spectacle that gravitates audiences to Nicki’s music.
NM5 might not do crazy numbers but will sure make a lot of noise in the pop and hiphop community
4)Post Malone
Post Malone has already kicked off his new era with two noteworthy singles which include Motley Crew and One Right Now. I personally didn’t like motley crew and think its forgettable but it’s been bumped by many ever since its release being a commendable rap effort by Posty.
One Right Now on the other hand is everything we love about Posty, his melodic genius, creating an earworm pop rap smash with the Weeknd where there voices compliment each other beautifully.
Post Malone is a mega streaming force being the first artist in history to have 5 songs surpass a billion streams on spotify.
5)Gunna
Gunna is set to release his fourth instalment in the Drip Season series titled DS4 this Friday January 7th.
Gunna has become a trap favorite in the recent years with projects like Wunna topping several year end lists after its release and keeping him in hiphop conversations as one of the new wave trap heavyweights.
Judging by the snippet he shared of his single with future and young thug it is safe to say Gunna will be dominant this year.
6)Jack Harow
Not many white rappers have been able to make it in HipHop, but Jack Harlow has this cool boy next door vibe that many resonate with.
He is also a talented rapper who’s debut album received warm reviews form critics and his performance on Industry Baby lauded by many, outperforming Nas X with his witty bars and smooth flow.
His sophomore album is rumoured to be dropping sometime this year and its definitely gonna be worth the listen
7) Travis Scott
Travis Scott was forced to cut his Utopia album roll out short after 8 fans tragically lost their lives in his astroworld festival last year.
His efforts to pay for the funeral costs of the victims and issue out a statement was met with mixed reviews but as witnessed countless times before people are quick to move on to the next big story leaving room for Travis to sneak in his album to a warm reception.
One thing with Travis he is gonna have a magnificently produced trap banger in his album that will be bumped through and through so expect that this year.
8)Saweetie
Yeah Saweetie is more of an influencer than an artist this days but you would do the same for a hefty bag considering how little labels pay their artists for their music.
Saweetie however knows how to make an anthemic rap hit that will have you doing the most on tiktok or in the club.
Whether you respect her as an artist or not you'll be tapping in when she releases her pretty bitch music album.
9)Future
For well over a decade, Future has opened various doors of his artistry to the world.
When it’s the truth of his life as Honest presented or a wave of toxicity as he grapples with love on HNDRXX, each album Future presents offers a slight change in the lens from the last one.
It’s what makes the impending arrival of his upcoming ninth album so intriguing. What will the trap star bring to the table thing time around? A focus on fame, pain, love, or evildoings? Or mix of it all?
Either way we know for sure Future will be dropping to keep up with his streak of strong releases.
10) Latto
Kicking off the run-up to her new album with the “Fantasy”-sampling “Big Energy,” Latto is already showing growth and experimentation to begin the next phase of her career.
And, lest anyone get nervous that she’s wandered too far afield of her comfort zone, she’s made sure to allay those concerns with tracks like “Soufside,” showing she’ll stick to her punchline-slinging trap rap roots even as she strives for the next level of pop stardom.
