By aL Yhusuff
Ikechukwu Okoronkwo, also known by his stage name, AcebergTM is a gifted rapper and singer who is currently signed to Sir Justine World Entertainment Ltd (SJW Entertainment).
AcebergTM released his first official single under SJW Entertainment in July 2020 titled “Heart Breaker'', the record has gone on to amass over 7 million streams across all digital platforms.
On this episode of Buzz Discoveries, the singer/rapper discussed his new single Danca, his EP, Far From Home, and the challenges he faces as an emerging act.
AcebergTM started off the interview by talking about his record Danca. In his words;
“Danca is just like a party jam, mostly I do rap and I just wanted something people could like vibe to. Just have everybody connecting to the music. It’s simply just a party jam. Just enjoy and have fun”
He further revealed that there was no inspiration behind the song; “I just hooked up with Kel P, he played the instrumental for me and I was like, this is hard and I just did what I know how to do on it” – he said
During the course of the chat, AcebergTM also opened up that he doesn’t remember when he got into music because it seems like an art he has been involved with his whole life but explained that he got interested in writing his own songs during his secondary school days.
When asked if Danca is his first official single, AcebergTM explained thus;
“No. I released a couple of songs back in the years but I think Heart Breaker was my first official single before Danca”
AcebergTM describes comparison as one of the challenges he faces as an emerging artist. In his words;
“When people try to compare you to other artists that are popping and they want you to get on that same vibe, you could be among the popping artists and stuffs like that. That’s the challenge”
He also classified his kind of music as “good music”, explaining that, “there’s no category for that, there are few people that do the stuff I do in this part of the country, it’s either you are an Afro-pop or you are doing Afro-music or Afrobeats or you are just rapping but I’m trying to create a different sound” – he stated.
AcebergTM made it known that he isn’t putting his rap skills aside and has no plans of delving into another genre of music.
Talking about acts that inspire him, he named, Drake, J.Cole, and M.I, stating that he would love to work with all of them if the opportunity rises.
AcebergTM also took us on a journey through his creative process. He said;
“It depends on the song, if it’s a party vibe, I can just come up with it on that spot but if it’s deep and a rap music I want people to understand what I’m talking about, maybe a day…”
He also opened up that it was a fantastic experience working with Kel P on the record Danca.
The rapper/singer announced the release of his new EP, Far From Home, and how it houses many genres of music.
