Uganda Government Intends to Ban ‘Tumbiza Sound’ Song Over "Misleading Covid19 Message"
Eric Opoka aka Eezzy, the 'Tumbiza Sound' hit maker's fortune might change. The new kid on the music scene has been enjoying the fame that has come with the success of this song.
The rebellious lyrics of the song that have since caught the attention of various authorities including the Ministry of Health.
Apparently the lyrics pass on a controversial message as regards adherence to the set Covid19 standard operating procedures and guidelines.
According to the the lyrics, the song asks government to open up the entertainment industry as well let Ugandans go about the normal entertainment arrangements as they follow the Standard Operating Procedures.
The singer says that Covid19 should not stop people from enjoying life, including outing in bars, and night clubs.
However in a twist of his creativity, the singer also asked the Ministry of Health to quarantine people inside bars for fourteen days and lock up people in bars and clubs over the curfew time. This could have been the spoiler for the banger.
In response to the 'twisted' message in the song, a letter seeking the ban of the song was sent to the Executive Director of Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) from the Director General Health services in the Ministry of Health dated December 4, 2020.
In the letter, Dr. Henry Mwebesa says that the song contradicts the standard operating procedures that the Ministry of Health put in place to curb the spread of Covid19.
“The message in the song has in turn caused misinformation among different audiences, subsequently creating complacency among the public. This is therefore to request you to ban the airing of the song on all mass media channels so that the public is not misled,” the letter partly reads.
UCC reacted positively and wrote to singer Eric Opoka alias Eezzy inviting him for a meeting over his hit song dubbed ‘Tumbiza Sound’ following claims that it was misleading the public over the Covid19 guidelines.
The letter that dated 23rd December 2020 invited Eezzy for a meeting on Tuesday 29th December at the Ministry of Health offices.
It is reported that the Ministry of Health, UCC, and singer Eezzy all agreed that he should remix his song advising the public to follow the Covid19 guidelines.
The remix and a new video to the song is reportedly to be facilitated and financed by the Ministry of Health.
The impending ban however seems to have influenced more love for the song, owing to the fact that most Ugandans are tired of the selective Covid19 preventive restrictions.
I hope that the remix garners even half the love that the original 'Tumbiza Sound' has recieved. Because...'mitima gy'akaluba..!'
