Why the GRAMMYs Are Such a Big Deal
On Tuesday (Nov. 24), GRAMMY Awards nominees were announced with Beyoncé leading among the nominees with nine.
Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa and Roddy Rich followed with six nominations each.
Africa's own include Burna Boy and Wizkid.
The recording academy announced "The Daily Show's" Trevor Noah as host of the event in January 2021.
From this point on, one phrase is sure to be repeated over and over: “It’s an honor to be nominated.”
The fact is that everyone is indeed flattered to be up for a GRAMMY.
Getting the butterflies in the belly and the respect of your peers is one thing, but a nomination is a great thing on an artist's resumè.
Beyond giving butterflies in the belly and a resumè boost, the Grammys offer alot more -both to those nominated and those who take home the award. In my opinion, there is a very thin line between nominees and winners.
This is why GRAMMY nominations are such a big deal;
First of all people hear the nominated record in a different light after it was GRAMMY nominated. It is true that you can begin appreciating a record or song simply because it was on the list of Grammy nominations.
The GRAMMYs create opportunities that maybe weren’t there before. An artist or band will most likely earn better upon having a Grammy nomination or a win. Think of it as a certified mark of recognition from the "big dogs" in music. The awards say alot about artist’s work ethic and ambition.
Even producers, engineers and people in that category would be eager to work with an artist who has been nominated in the GRAMMYs. A GRAMMY nomination indicates hardwork and a level of sophistication so it is quite obvious that everyone would rather work with an artist who is going forward successfully.
If an artist is relatively new to the music scene, a GRAMMY nomination is an even bigger deal. It is a sure thing their fanbase shall grow. This exposure is phenomenal, and fans like to be associated with artists who give them the impression of being "big stars", the GRAMMYs offer this on a silver platter.
The GRAMMYs at times have a certain snowball effect. Once an artist gets their first award nomination or win, they will most likely be nominated in the following season. It could be because an artist gets to know the level of input required to make it up there. It's like a template from which to make awesome music.
On the side of music producers, making music that makes it to the GRAMMYs is a stamp for credibility. It is a sign that the producer can do something that is commercially viable. Business, i mean big business will surely come their way.
Regardless of the final outcome or who ends up bagging the award, there will be a bump for several artists. It is not clear what criteria are used to nominate candidates for these revered awards, but I am thankfull that fame and length of music career do not take centre stage.
May "the best man" win at the next academy awards. We shall celebrate together, for the love of music.
