You Can Use Music For Better Sleep
Lullabies aren’t just for babies, they're great for adults too. Using soothing music to wind down before bed each night is perfectly acceptable -even encouraged, as a relaxation technique.
Listening to your favorite beats before bed can actually improve the quality of your sleep. Studies have overwhelmingly shown that music has a positive effect on sleep. It helps you sleep better, stay asleep for longer, and spend less time lying awake.
The benefits may not happen overnight, it can take a while to see improvement, but listening to music pays off.
While the reasons why music can help you sleep better aren’t clear, it may have to do with the relaxing effect that a good song can have, or the fact that music may trigger feel-good chemicals in the brain. Music can have real physical affects too, by lowering your heart rate and slowing your breathing.
For people who find it hard to fall asleep (myself inclusive), try soothing songs that you like -specifically ones that have a slow rhythm of 60 to 80 BPM. Ed Sheeran has lots of these.
If you are not sure how many beats per minute (BPM) a song has, listen to it with a stopwatch, tap everytime a beat goes, a 60 BPM song should have 60 beats in a minute.
Familiar songs tend to work well (as long as it will not excite you into staying awake instead). Easy listening picks like classical, jazz, and folk music like the kind that Taylor swift does, can do a great job.
Also, you may want to experiment to see what works best for you.
Either way, stay with your music, awake or asleep...
Enjoy your snooze time!
