On a long line of rappers in Nigeria, none spit resonance and complete identification of hustle like Davolee, a picture painting storyteller, on Festival Bar he recounts stories of his determination, grit, and hustle.
Festival Bar is getting attention because of the way it resonates with the Nigerian crowd, Nigeria is a place where life in struggle is a reality for many, they relate with his stories and probably have a few of their own, but none tells their life struggles in a story better than Davolee.
Festival Bar houses four installments, two previous installments, and two new additions where Davolee takes on the character of Segun in narrating his journey towards desired success.
In part 1, he narrates his experience at festival bar, Ikotun where he worked as a barman he speaks on greed, his defiant attitude, and his quick reaction to bullshit.
Still in Seguns character, Davolee continues to narrate on the second part, after he got fired at his barman gig and unwilling to turn to a life of crime, he explored other hustle possibilities but most were not enough to fund his music dream, from packing sand to working as a motor boy and again at Aqua dana where he had a fall out with the supervisor Mr. Tony.
Defiant and determined, he kept recording freestyles on the gram even though he wasn't getting traction or making a dime from it, but a certain OG was taking note of all he was doing without Segun's(Davolee) knowledge.
If you listen closely, you'll notice the drop in energy in part 3 and 4, in his interview with Motolani Alake of Pulse Ng, the drop in vim and vigor is warranted, Davolee has been battling depression.
He evolves into a more business-minded artist in the third part "So before I start dey burst hope say you dey buy my songs cos if na free you dey get am then that one no be love"
In part 3, he narrates his experience with the American embassy and how his visa application was denied, unfazed in his desire for success, he kept on grinding regardless dropping bars on IG for 62 days straight he was "always on the gram even though I was making a dime".
Baseone gave him an audience and he shouts him out, he further narrates how his fortune changed when he met Olamide. In part 4 depression has led him to alcohol and drugs he narrates how he recorded 'Way' at one of the lowest points of his life.
In the final installment, he addresses people who called him an ingrate when he left YBNL, he parted ways with the label because he didn't like the turn by turn policy of the label but still refuses to criticize Olamide, his eternal gratitude to Baddo won't let him.
Davolee is on a desired journey to success and his story isn't finished yet, his intense hunger for success fuels his determination to keep going and this hunger also haunts him.
You cannot doubt his talent, his technique and flow are some of the best you will hear.
Davolee's journey has just begun.
