Sir Victor Uwaifo was one of the forces to come in reckon with when it comes to Nigerian music and African music at large. Born on the 1st of March 1941, the legendary singer passed on to eternal glory on the 28th of August 2021.


Victor Uwaifo won the first gold disc in Africa for Joromi released in 1965 and further went on to win seven other gold discs in Guitar boy, Arabade, Ekassa series, and Akwete music.


Sir Victor Uwaifo was vast in knowledge and well-educated he had a B.A. Honors (first class valedictorian), Masters degree and Ph.D. in Architectural Sculpture from the University of Benin, Nigeria).


Sir Victor Uwaifo began playing the guitar when he was 12 and started music professionally in the 1960s up until his death in 2021.

Guitar Boy by Victor Uwaifo is a record that details a life experience that happened in the ’60s. The legendary singer claimed to have had an encounter with a mermaid at the beach and that was what birthed the record.


In an interview, the singer stated that while he strummed his guitar, the mermaid uttered the words; "Guitar boy, if you see mami wata, never never you run away."

This is a 2 part album, the first part houses his classics like "Joromi" while the 2nd part houses collaborations with some of Nigeria's biggest acts like 2Baba and Ice Prince on the records, "Kirikisi" and "Tupepe".
