NYJA is an emerging Afrobeats singer songwriter, born & raised in East London.
Nyja started off as an MC in a collective crew called Raw Ones who had regular sets on Rinse FM in the early 2000’s every Wednesday 3am-5am typically known as ‘the graveyard shift’.
One of the sets had one of its biggest listeners of all time due to the set featuring Wiley, hosted by Dj Darkwin.
Nyja went solo in 2016 & released her first track called ‘No One’ which received radio play from Morgan Keys (wtstrn manager) who regularly played her track on his Rinse Fm set every Friday.
Nyja decided to switch up her sound and revert back to her natural roots exploring the Afrobeats scene, as this was the original music she grew up on, listening to artists such as Sunny Ade, Ayinde Barrister, Wasu & the late Fela Kuti.
Fast forward to more recent times in 2018 Nyja had released her first Afrobeats track called BAMIJO produced by her long-time friend as well as her producer GARFIELD. The track is made up of a simple melody, catchy hook & nice vocals, which put her on the map along with the rest of the new emerging afrobeats artists coming out of the UK in recent times. Nyja’s debut Afrobeats track also landed her a special guest performance at Nigerian 58th independence celebration event in 2018.
Nyja influences which helps her creates feel good vibes consists of Tenni, Sona, Qdot, Davido, Wizkid, Maleek Berry, Olamide & Mostacks.
Stay tuned as Nyja has a lot of quality music on the way.
