If you search the meaning of SALIM you will find many Arabic translations for the name relating to safety and perfection, almost coincidentally aligning with his first ever R&B single “Prayers” released late April of 2020. In its first week, the debut single reached over an astounding 100,000 views, in which he sings “I just pray, and pray, and pray for safety”. What a full circle. Unbeknownst to his new fans and thousands of instagram followers alike, Salim only found his voice in recent years through influences like Chris Brown, which finally gave him the courage to sing in front of a high school English class at 14. Nothing says ‘keep going’ like encouraging classmates, and that is exactly what Salim did. He took singing seriously at 15, joining a vocal group, and only two years later at 17 years old found himself writing the infamous “Prayers” in October of 2019.


The young artist, traveling alone from Harlem, found himself all the way in Mount Vernon at the renown Autre Niveau, where artist, namely A Boogie, Jay Critch, and the like have recorded platinum selling records. This is where Salim met owner and producer JAMZ who would change the trajectory of his life and career as he knew it. Salim’s first studio session truly galvanized the popular producer, so much so into signing Salim to his newly formed label.
