Known jokingly as “Sophie wa Music ” in High school, the 2017 Groove award nominee´s love for music has been a big part of her life.Born in Ntumu village in Tharaka-Nithi county as the last-born of seven, she went on to Kenyatta University to pursue a degree in Music majoring in Music Performance. She has been greatly influenced by the sounds of Eric Wainaina, Chris Adwar, Miriam Makeba , Reuben Kigame ,Kanji Mbugua and many others. Her afrocentric style of music is very versatile and can be heard right through the sweeping ballads to the typical African melodies found in her music. The unforgettable lyrics of her upcoming solo gospel album ” Sema Ukweli “ (speak the truth) and EP ” Ibwega” (Kimeru for thank you) written in Kiwahili by Emma Naibei , a former college mate and songwriter , will leave your feet tapping to the melodies and ears tingling from the sometimes razor sharp messages in the songs. She has summarized her message as ´´Imani Mashinani´´
