#BuzzBlast: Migos' Songs That Took the World by Storm
Migos, where do we start? Known for the introduction of trap rapping and taking it to the next level, the group has done well for itself in fact, it is safe to admit that it has done better than good. If honesty is to be viewed, after the release of Culture 2, it seemed like they were creatively done and were not about a musical comeback because they were heavy on endorsements, family and lots of drama.
Quavo had so much going on with his now ex-girlfriend Saweetie a rapper. Offset was entangled in the bad and beauties of having a family having broken up a dozen times with his star wife Cardi. Takeoff, well asides from being the brains in the group and the quiet one, was accused of rape which he was acquitted of the charges. Look at them now! Culture 3 is here and, fans seem to be loving everything about them. #BuzzBlast looks at some of the best tunes by the group that took the world by storm.
After releasing several mixtapes, the group finally hit the jackpot with a timeless hit song that we vibe to, to date. In 2014, Migos found their hit with “Fight Night.” The song features a beat that is made up mostly of a bass-synth mix. Takeoff’s energy on the hook about the “Fight Night” sexual innuendo makes the song the perfect Migos hit. With its powerful hook, it is no surprise that 'Fight Night' still is a success to date.
The success that came with “Bad and Boujee” surprised everyone. The song which became Migos first number one on Billboard Hot 100, took the world by storm with the opening line “raindrops/drop tops/Smokin’ on cookie in the hot box.” Those lyrics alone drew a slew of memes on Twitter of different jokes and wordplay. “Bad and Boujee” was the lead single off of their album Culture.
The release of this song came at a perfect time with Atlanta heating up and getting back to their golden era reminding us of when Usher and Jermaine Dupri ran things.
Named after the children television show “Hannah Montana” starring Miley Cyrus, the song is anything but innocent. In this song “Hannah Montana” is slang for cocaine. The lyrics “Hannah Montana, Hannah Montana, I got molly I got white, I been trapping, trapping, trapping, trapping all damn night” is what gives it away. Despite the meaning of the song you can’t deny its infectiousness. Released in 2013, it is one of Migos first hit singles. The song dropped when Migos was creating a lane for themselves as rappers who take famous names and brands and turn them into hooks that you will be singing over and over.
If there is one thing Migos are good at is creating and making a hook that will have you hooked literally. On Versace, they did it again. The hook sounds like a mantra that captivates you. The song had a ton of radio play and landed as 99 on Billboard’s Hot 100. If you are still wondering how good the jam was, it was good enough to have Drake do a remix. Now you know you are successful when Drake pays attention!
After their hiatus from music and of course doing solo projects, the trio introduced Culture 3 with this particular track which dropped accompanied with a dope music video that caught everyone's attention anticipating the launch of the album.
