The Band Beca

The Band Beca is an all-female band of two immensely talented singers, Becky Sangolo and Carol Kamweru. The band’s name was derived from the first two letters of the members names to join the name BeCa. Many of Band Beca's Songs became very popular and trendy on social media in line with a great number of streaming and downloads on Boomplay.

Career
In 2015 they became much sought after background vocalists of a popular reggea band in Kenya and have performed in big concerts which included the Morgan Heritage Extravaganza, Sportpesa Festival, Nairobi Market Fashion, The Park, Choices amoung others. Becky started singing at the age of six while working with her father Abedi Dot com in the studio while Carol started singing while she was in class eight during a singing competition.

The two met in Penya Africa’s Sauti Academy a few years ago while undertaking a vocal training course and decided to blend their voices and kick off their musical career.

The duo became friends after there encounter in the academy and were inseparable and that’s when they decided to create a band. Their rise to fame, however, started at Coke Studio where they made their debut on the regional stage. The popular music show gave them an opportunity to collaborate with AKA (South Africa) and Olamide (Nigeria).

Since then, they have distinguished themselves as one of the leading girl groups in Kenya with a vocal prowess cultivated during their time at Sauti Academy and through intensive voice classes that the two say improved their vocal abilities massively. The most convincing example of their talent is their rendition of “Ni Wewe” a gospel song released in 2021 which showcases their vocal range. The song also goes to prove that the band would prefer to not be limited by genre.

Having established themselves, the duo hopes that in future they will have an opportunity to partner with other female artists as well as producers. Not that they haven’t already. In their debut album released in February this year, they have collaborated with several female musicians including Femi One, Fena Gitu and Sanaipei Tande. BeCa brings a different feel to the music industry with their style which is greatly influenced by dancehall and alternatively reggea, with powerhouse voices, style and attitude.

The group made their debut single dubbed “Toka” on 20th Sept, 2016. An assertive song dedicated to men who have the habit of cheating on their ladies and once caught they go down their knees begging for forgiveness.

Achievements
The duo have had a fruitful career with actually being listed fourth position in MTV Base acts to watch in 2017 beating Khaligraph Jones and other great African acts. Follow Boomplay and keep up-to-date with the latest songs of Band Beca and information.
