Boom Radar: Kafui Chordz "Daffodils"

Kafui Chordz just released her new album "Daffodils".

Ghanaian singer/songwriter Celestine Agropah, known by many as Kafui Chordz has released her new album "Daffodils". The album name, according to the sensational Afro/R&B/Soul artiste symbolizes "rebirth, hope, and joy as well as resilience and a fresh start". For Kafui Chordz, the title reflects her experiences - surviving challenging times.

"Daffodils" is the second studio album she has released, coming after her 2018 debut album "PIECES IN PEACE". The 9 - tracks album is made up of different song genres- from Afropop, Highlife, R&B and Afro-soul, produced to meet the music taste of her diverse listeners while exhibiting the depth of her musical talents.

The first song we recommend for you is "Jealousy" featuring Worlasi (Track 4). The Afropop/Afrofusion record carries a mid-tempo feel, with Kafui Chordz and Worlasi taking turns to detail the effects of jealousy on life, friendship and love. Opening with a solo guitar riff, Kafui Chordz and Worlasi sing the chorus of the song in unison, giving the listener a feel of their vocal powers. Singing in pidgin, Kafui Chordz narrates a story about how jealousy marred a good relationship. Worlasi is known for his versatility - he can sing and rap in equal measure.

And on this song, he chooses to rap; rendering a verse about how he thought his girlfriend was cheating on him yet came to find out that wasn't the case. The girlfriend had planned a birthday party for him. His jealousy thus was unfounded and nearly ruined a good love affair. The concept of the song has the two artists in a fictional relationship, talking about each other's insecurities from their point of view.

The second track we recommend is Track 3 "Na Lie". Produced by the renowned musician/producer Kwame Yeboah. "Na Lie" is a contemporary Highlife song with live recorded elements incorporated in the production. Mellow yet infectious, "Na Lie" sees Kafui Chordz singing about the lies men tell to ladies to woo them. "Na me dey borst up his ballon/And I want to come see your mama too/But Na Lie/He wants to break heart", he declares in pidgin, on the opening verse. The mellow tune and infectious live rhythms offers "Na Lie" a soothing feel that is lost in many contemporary Highlife songs. The message is also one that many ladies could relate to since "men ain't s**t".

"Daffodils" has other equally catchy and good records that would appeal to many fans or listeners. Considering the tone and musical direction of this album, it's a clear indication of how Kafui Chordz is evolving artistically. According to her, this album is her best work thus far and the most demanding to make.
